OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
AUTHORIZING THE CONDUCT OF A MAIL BALLOT ELECTION
FOR THE APRIL 8, 1997 REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION
WHEREAS, a regular municipal election is to be conducted on April 8, 1997, pursuant to
the requirements of the City Charter; and
WHEREAS, Section 31-10-102.7 of the Colorado Revised Statutes permits any municipality
to adopt the provisions of the Uniform Election Code of 1992 with respect to any municipal election;
and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to adopt a portion of the Uniform Election Code of
1992 relating to mail ballot elections for the April 8, 1997 regular municipal election; and
WHEREAS, Section 1-7.5-104, C.R.S., provides that the governing board of any political
subdivision may determine that an election shall be by mail ballot; and
WHEREAS, the Governance Committee of the City Council has recommended that the
Council consider authorizing a mail ballot election for the April 8, 1997 regular municipal election;
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to give direction concerning the conduct and
implementation of a mail ballot election for the April 8, 1997 regular municipal election; and
WHEREAS, Article VIII, Section I of the City Charter states that the Council shall provide
by ordinance for the manner of holding city elections.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS, COLORADO as follows:
Section 1. That the City of Fort Collins hereby adopts those particular provisions of the
Uniform Election Code contained in C.R.S.,Title 1, Article 7.5, pertaining to mail ballot elections,
for the conduct of the April 8, 1997 regular municipal election.
Section 2. That the City Clerk is hereby authorized to forthwith submit to the Secretary
of State a proposed plan for conducting the mail ballot election pursuant to the provisions of the Mail
Ballot Election Act (Section 1-7.5-101, et seq., C.R.S.) and to follow the other procedures in the Act
with regard to the conduct of the election.
Section 3. That registered voters shall have an opportunity to cast ballots in person as
provided by the Mail Ballot Election Act at a polling place located at the City Clerk's Office, City
Hall West, 300 Laporte Avenue, Fort Collins, Colorado.
Section 4. That the use of an electronic system to record the votes at said election is
hereby authorized.

September, A.D. 1996, and to be presented for final passage on the 17th day of September
1996.
