HomeMy WebLinkAbout145 - 12/20/2005 - APPROVING A GENERAL FORM OF PETITION FOR INITIATED CHARTER AMENDMENTS ORDINANCE NO. 145, 2005 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS APPROVING A GENERAL FORM OF PETITION FOR INITIATED CHARTER AMENDMENTS WHEREAS,the Charter ofthe City ofFort Collins states that the City Council mayprescribe by ordinance,upon recommendation of the City Clerk,a general form of petition for citizen-initiated Charter amendments; and WHEREAS, it has recently come to staff's attention that the Council has never approved such a form; and WHEREAS, the City Clerk recommends adoption of a petition form for citizen initiatives to better ensure that potential signers of a petition are familiar with the purpose and content of a petition before signing the same; and WHEREAS,the City Clerk has recommended Council approval of a general form ofpetition for citizen-initiated Charter amendments, attached hereto as Exhibit "A". NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS as follows: Section 1. That the general form of petition for initiated Charter amendments, attached hereto as Exhibit"A", is hereby approved by the Council. Section 2. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to have a sufficient quantity of petition forms printed for distribution, upon request, to any individual or group that has filed with the City Clerk an statement of intent to circulate a petition to amend the Charter, pursuant to CRS 31-2- 210(1)(a)(I). Section 3. That the general form of petition approved herein shall be used for Charter amendment proceedings commenced after the effective date of this ordinance. Section 4. That a petition for a citizen-initiated Charter amendment shall be reviewed by the Clerk who shall determine that the petition contains all information,and only the information, required by state and local law, and once reviewed and approved the petition may be circulated.
