OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
ADOPTING, AND DETERMINING THE EFFECTIVE DATE
OF, THE DISTRICT-PRECINCT MAP FOR THE
2001 REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION
WHEREAS,Article II, Section 1 of the Charter requires that the City be divided into six (6)
Council districts, each representing one (1) contiguous, reasonably compact unit; and
WHEREAS, no later than one hundred eighty (180) days before each regular biennial
election,the City Clerk is to determine if the number of registered electors in the district containing
the lowest number of registered electors is less than eighty-five percent (85%) of the number of
registered electors in the district containing the highest number and, if so, the City Clerk is to
recommend to the Council district boundary changes,which shall be established by ordinance at least
one hundred twenty (120) days before the election; and
WHEREAS,the City Clerk,in reviewing the composition of the existing districts of the City,
has determined that District 1, which has the lowest number of registered electors, has less than
eighty-five percent (85%) of the number of registered electors in District 3, which has the highest
number of electors; and
WHEREAS, the City Clerk has recommended the following changes, which changes will
result in District 2 having the lowest number of registered electors,and District 5 having the highest
number or registered electors:
Move Precinct 57 from District 2 to District 4
Move Precinct 23 from District 2 to District 1
Move Precinct 55 from District 3 to District 2
Move Precinct 65 from District 4 to District 5; and
WHEREAS, as a result of the aforementioned changes,the number of registered electors in
District 2 will be more than eighty-five percent(85%)of the number of registered electors in District
5; and
WHEREAS,the City Council wishes to clarify that the District-Precinct Map adopted for the
April 3, 2001 regular municipal election shall also be used (1) to determine eligibility for
appointment to fill any vacancy in Council office which may occur following the effective date of
this ordinance; and (2) to determine residency for voter registration purposes for any special
municipal election held following the effective date of this ordinance, except for any special
municipal election held in conjunction with a Consolidated or General Election conducted by
Larimer County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS that the 2001 District-Precinct Map dated November 17,2000,on file in the office of the
City Clerk, is hereby adopted and shall be in effect for the following purposes:
(1) determining eligibility for District Council offices for the April 3, 2000
regular municipal election;
(2) determining eligibility for District Council offices for any interim
appointments to fill any District Council vacancies which may occur after the
effective date of this ordinance; and
(3) determining residency for voting purposes for any special municipal election
conducted after the effective date of this ordinance, except for any special
municipal election held in conjunction with a Consolidated or General
Election conducted by Larimer County.
