OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
DESIGNATING THE MITTRY-YOUNG HOUSE,
1601 SHEELY DRIVE, FORT COLLINS, COLORADO, AS A
HISTORIC LANDMARK PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 14 OF
THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 14-2 of the City Code,the City Council has established a
public policy encouraging the protection,enhancement and perpetuation ofhistoric landmarks within
the City; and
WHEREAS, by Resolution dated May 27, 1998, the Landmark Preservation Commission
(the"Commission")has determined that the Mittry-Young House has importance to the City in that
it represents architectural significance as a good example of Post World War II Contemporary
Architecture; and
WHEREAS,the Commission has further determined that said property meets the criteria of
a landmark as set forth in Section 14-5 of the Code and is eligible for designation as a local
landmark, and has recommended to the City Council that said property be designated by the City
Council as a local landmark; and
WHEREAS, the owners of the property have consented to such landmark designation; and
WHEREAS, such landmark designation will preserve the property's significance to the
community; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed the recommendation of the Commission and
desires to approve such recommendation and designate said property as a historic landmark.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS as follows:
Section 1. That the building,know as the Mittry-Young House, located on lands in the City
of Fort Collins, Larimer County, Colorado, described as follows, to wit:
THAT PORTION OF LOT 1,OF THE ARTHUR C. SHEELY FIRST SUBDIVISION,CITY OF
FORT COLLINS, COUNTY OF LARIMER, STATE OF COLORADO, BEING MORE
PARTICULARLY DESCRIBED AS FOLLOWS: BEGINNING AT A POINT ON THE NORTH
LINE OF SAID LOT 1, WHICH BEARS SOUTH 90 DEGREES 00' 00" EAST 112.04 FEET
FROM THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF SAID LOT l;THENCE SOUTH 27 DEGREES 16'01"
EAST 100.35 FEET; THENCE SOUTH 04 DEGREES 37' 47" WEST 186.00 FEET; THENCE
SOUTH 88 DEGREES I F 0 1" EAST 203.74 FEET; THENCE NORTH 00 DEGREES 20' 00"
WEST 61.06 FEET;THENCE NORTH 43 DEGREES 4 P 01"EAST 79.65 FEET TO A POINT ON
THE WESTERLY RIGHT OF WAY LINE OF SHEELY DRIVE;THENCE ALONG SAID RIGHT
OF WAY LINE NORTH 60 DEGREES 00' 00" WEST 65.00 FEET; THENCE CONTINUING
ALONG SAID RIGHT OF WAY LINE 157.08 FEET ALONG THE ARC OF A CURVE TO THE
RIGHT HAVING A RADIUS OF 150.00 FEET,A CENTRAL ANGLE OF 30 DEGREES 00'00"
AND A LONG CHORD WHICH BEARS NORTH 30 DEGREES 00'00"WEST 150.00 FEET TO
A POINT ON THE SOUTH RIGHT OF WAY LINE OF PROSPECT ROAD;THENCE ALONG
SAID RIGHT OF WAY LINE NORTH 90 DEGREES 00'00"WEST 157.96 FEET TO THE POINT
OF BEGINNING; ALSO KNOWN AS 1601 SHEELY DRIVE
be, and hereby is, designated as a historic landmark pursuant to Chapter 14 of the Code of the City
of Fort Collins.
Section 2. That the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation and Guidelines
for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings (U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service,
Revised 1983) shall serve as the standards by which alterations, additions and other changes to the
structure located upon the above described property shall be reviewed for compliance with Chapter
14, Article III, of the Code of the City of Fort Collins.
