OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
DESIGNATING THE CITY PARK CANNON AS A
HISTORIC LANDMARK PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 14 OF
THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 14-2 of the City Code, the City Council has established a
public policy encouraging the protection,enhancement and perpetuation of historic landmarks within
the City; and
WHEREAS, by Resolution dated May 13, 1997 the Landmark Preservation Commission
("Commission") has determined that the City Park Cannon has importance to the City in that it
represents historical significance; and
WHEREAS,the Commission has further determined that said object meets the criteria of a
landmark as set forth in Section 14-5 of the Code and is eligible for designation as a local landmark,
and has recommended to the City Council that said object be designated by the City Council as a
local landmark; and
WHEREAS, the owner of the object has consented to such landmark designation; and
WHEREAS, such landmark designation will preserve the object's significance to the
community; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed the recommendation of the Commission and
desires to approve such recommendation and designate said object as a historic landmark.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS as follows:
Section 1. That the City Park Cannon, described as follows, to wit:
U.S. Army 4.7-inch field gun, model of 1906
built in 1918 by the Northwestern Ordnance Co. of Madison, Wisconsin
and accompanying carriage, built by the Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island Illinois
located in the Fort Collins City Park as described in Attachment "A"
be, and hereby is, designated as a historic landmark pursuant to Chapter 14 of the Code of the City
of Fort Collins.
Section 2. That the conservation standards adopted for the City Park Cannon and approved
by the Fort Collins Museum shall serve as the standards by which maintenance, restoration,
alterations or other changes to the object be reviewed for compliance with Chapter 14, Article III of
the Code of the City of Fort Collins.

DESCRIPTION OF THE LOCATION OF THE HISTORIC CANNON SITE IN THE FORT
COLLINS CITY PARK
A tract of land located in the Southeast Quarter of Section 10,
Township 7 North, Range 69 West of the Sixth Principal Meridian,
City of Fort Collins, Larimer County, Colorado, the said tract is
also located in the Fort Collins City Park, more particularly
described as follows;
Considering the south line of Block 4 of the Scott-Sherwood
Addition to The City Of Fort Collins, a plat of record with the
Clerk and Recorder of the said Larimer County, as bearing North 90
degrees 00 minutes 00 seconds East, from a found 1" square steel
pin at the southwest corner of the said Block 4 to a found No. 6
rebar at the southeast corner of the said Block 4 and with all
bearings contained herein relative thereto;
Commencing at the said southwest corner of Block 4 ;
THENCE South 21 degrees 47 minutes 32 seconds West for a
distance of 439 . 27 feet to the TRUE POINT OF BEGINNING of this
description;
THENCE South 00 degrees 12 minutes 08 seconds West for a
distance of 8 . 09 feet;
THENCE South 89 degrees 30 minutes 51 seconds West for a
distance of 18 .25 feet;
THENCE North 00 degrees 12 minutes 08 seconds East for a
distance of 8 . 09 feet;
THENCE North 89 degrees 30 minutes 51 seconds East for a
distance of 18 . 25 feet to the point of beginning. Containing 148
square feet more or less.
The above described tract is subject to all easements and rights of
ways now existing or of record.

true and correct to the best of my professional knowledge, belief
and opinion. The description and areas are based upon previously
recorded plats and deeds and not upon a actual monumented field
survey.
