HomeMy WebLinkAbout087 - 06/21/1994 - AMENDING CITY CODE RELATING TO SKATES, SKATEBOARDS, IN-LINE SKATES AND SIMILAR DEVICES ORDINANCE NO. 87, 1994 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS AMENDING SECTION 28-17 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS RELATING TO SKATES, SKATEBOARDS, IN-LINE SKATES, AND SIMILAR DEVICES UNDER THE "MODEL TRAFFIC CODE FOR COLORADO MUNICIPALITIES," 1977 EDITION BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS that Section 28- 17 of the Code of the City of Fort Collins is hereby amended to add, repeal , and amend subsections of Section 21-5 of the "Model Traffic Code for Colorado Municipalities, 1977 Edition, in numerical sequence with previous amendments and additions contained in Section 28-17, to read as follows: That in Section 21-5, Restricted use of snowmobiles, skis, toboggans, coasters, skates and similar devices, subsections (a) and (b) are hereby amended, subsection (e) is hereby repealed and reenacted, and subsection (f) is hereby added, each of which is to read as follows: Sec_ 21-5-_ Restric-tPA use- of snowmobiles, skis, toboggans, coasters, skates, and similar devices. - (a) No person shall use any street or highway within this municipality for traveling on skis, toboggans, coasting sleds, skates, skateboards, coasters, in-line skates, or similar devices, except as otherwise provided in subsections (b) and (d) of this section, and it shall be unlawful for any person to use any roadway within this municipality as a sled or ski course for the purpose of coasting on sleds, skis, or similar devices. This subsection (a) shall not apply to sidewalks. (b) No person upon roller skates or in-line skates, or riding on or by means of any coaster, toy vehicle, skateboard, or similar device, shall go upon any roadway in this municipality except while crossing a street in a crosswalk, and when so crossing such person shall be granted all of the rights and shall be subject to all of the duties applicable to pedestrians. "(e) Where such use is prohibited by an official traffic control device, a person shall not ride or use skates, skateboards, in-line skates, coasters, or similar devices on any sidewalk, path, trail , crosswalk, plaza area, public parking area, or any other public way or place. "(f) A person riding or using roller skates, skateboards, in- line skates, coasters, or similar devices on any sidewalk, path, trail , crosswalk, plaza area, public narking area, or any other public way or place, shall yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian and shall give an audible signal before overtaking and passing such pedestrian.
