Those services were provided on a part-time/on-call basis and included observation and evaluation of "open hole"/foundation bearing material for the proposed playground equipment, observation and/or field density testing of pavement aggregate base and curb -and -gutter subgrade material as described herein along with testing of cast -in - place concrete for the referenced project. The results of the observation and testing services completed by EEC personnel during the referenced period are included with this report. Open Hole/Foundation Bearing Observations On June 8, 2020, EEC personnel conducted a site visit to observe and evaluate the exposed subgrade foundation bearing materials for the proposed playground foundation systems on the north and south sides of the new building to verify general subsurface conditions in comparison with the structural plans prepared by Soney FM LLC, dated April 30, 2020 and June 1, 2020 and associated assumptions provided regarding bearing capacity. The proposed playground foundations had been excavated to approximate foundation bearing elevations, in general, approximately 30 inches below ground surface elevation. The exposed soils, in general, consisted of apparent native and/or reworked sandy lean clay / clayey sand material. 4396 GREENFIELD DRIVE WINDSOR, COLORADO 80550 (970) 545-3908 FAX (970) 663-0282 EARTH ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS, LLC SUMMARY OF LABORATORY CLASSIFICATION/MOISTURE-DENSITY RELATIONSHIP oo^io so% - so^io .. o^io L m .> } 60% N c 50% ll C L 40% a 30°/a 20% 10% - % Q . . .Q Grain Size in Millimeters Sieve Size Peroent Passing No.4 92% No.10 83% No.40 63% No.200 34.9% Material Designation: C Sample Location: OnSite Overburden Subsoils Material Descripfion: Dark Brown Clayey Sand with Gravel(SC) Project: Sunshine House No.213-N/E/C of Lake and Shields ,- Fort Collins,Colorado Project No: 1194141 Date June 2020 Earth Engineering Consultants,LLC EEC Project No. 1194141 July 6,2020 Page 2 Based on our observations, the foundation subgrades for the proposed playground equipment as indicated herein, in general, have been prepared and appeared capable of supporting the foundation footings using the maximum net allowable total load soil bearing pressure as recommended in the structural plans provided by Soney FM LLC. Observation,Laboratory and Field Densitv Testing Services On May 21 and 22, 2020, EEC personnel provided preliminary and final observations of aggregate base preparation at the intersection of the existing on-site pavement area and the new parking lot south of the Sunshine House building. During our preliminary site visit on May 21, 2020, the excavation contractor was in the process of removing previously placed flow-fill at several on-site utility tie-in locations generally east and northeast of the new building to accommodate new asphalt surfacing. The excavated flow fill material appeared to be graded similarly to an aggregate base material and was being placed at the intersection of the new parking lot and the existing on-site pavement. At the time of our final site visit on May 22, 2020, the processed material indicated herein was placed and compacted and, in general, appeared suitable for asphalt surfacing. During the referenced period, EEC personnel visited the site and obtained one (1) sample of the on-site subgrade materials (EEC Sample ID "C"). The sample was retumed to our office for further laboratory testing, evaluation and classification. Laboratory testing performed on the sample included washed sieve analysis (ASTM C117 and C136), Atterberg limits (ASTM D4398) and standard Proctor (ASTM Specification D698) tests. Results of the laboratory testing , completed by EEC personnel during the referenced period are shown on the attached summary sheets. The recently completed Proctor test results were used to evaluate the relative compaction of materials placed in the field. During the referenced period, EEC personnel performed field density tests on sidewalk and curb- and-gutter subgrade material as described herein, that was placed/prepared prior to our site visits. The field density tests were completed at random locations within the areas tested and were performed in general accordance with ASTM Specification D6938. The field density test results and approximate location of each test completed during the referenced period are indicated on the attached stunmary sheet and appropriate site diagram, respectively. With exception to Consecutive Test Number 91, the final field density test results, after several areas were reworked and retested as indicated herein by Retest of Consecutive Test No. (xx), conformed to . Eanh Gngineering Consultanis,LLC EEC Project No. 1194141 July 6,2020 Page 3 the project specific compaction requirement of at least 95% of standard Proctor maximum dry density (ASTM D698) and were within t2% of the material's optimum moisture content. Consecutive Test Number 91 was for the contractor's information only. We understand that area was going to be prepared and tested at a later date. Testing of Cast-in-Place Concrete During the referenced period, EEC personnel tested Portland cement concrete delivered to the site for placement as indicated on the enclosed daily repoits for the referenced project, (please refer to EEC Set Nos. 10, 1 l and 11.5). Field testing performed on the plastic concrete included slump, air content, unit weight, and concrete temperature. The ambient air temperature at the time of placement was also recorded. A minimum of five (4-inch diameter by 8 inches in height) concrete test cylinders were cast from representative samples on each respective date, for laboratory curing and compressive strength testing. Results of the field and 7-day laboratory compressive strength test results performed during the referenced period are included herein, while the 28-day results will be provided as they become available. We appreciate the opporeunity to be of service to you on this project.
