American Gyp§um's 1/2" FireBloc Type C wallboard UL classified panels like our 1/2" FireBloc Type C wallboard have a front and a back - with the front of the panel having tapers along the long edges to help with finishing using joint compound and tape. But the fire resistance of these UL classified panels is the same from either direction, and the inadvertent application of drywall with the back of the panel facing out - does not take away from the fire rating of a ceiling or wall assembly. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
