On January 25, 2017 1 visited the referenced site as requested. The purpose of
this visit was to determine the feasibility of cutting two new windows in the
basement walls.
The structure is a one-story wood framed residence with brick veneer and
concrete basement walls.
The, ,new windows are to be approximately 28" wide by 46" tall and located at
existing 32" wide by 21 " tall windows at the. south end of the east basement
wall and the west end of the north basement wall. The east wall supports floor
and roof, the north wall supports the end of the hip roof. Presently there are
steel window bucks with concrete above the windows.
Based on the proposed windows and existing construction it is my opinion it is;'
feasible-to.cut the two windows in the basement walls. ,The existing steel buck
and concrete above the _window on the north wall is adequate to support the
structure above however a header is required above the east window.
It is recommended a (3)-1 3/4" x 5 '/z" LVL header be used over the east window;
supported on a 2x6 trimmer each end. Two plies of the header should be',
under the existing sill plate and on ply under the brick veneer brick veneer.
