Re: Kappa Kappa Gamma Structural Closeout
Dear Mr. Espinera:
The purpose of this letter is to summarize the activities of KL&A, Inc. as the consulting structural
engineer on the Renovations and Additions for Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority located in Fort
Collins, Colorado.
KL&A performed calculations and prepared drawings for the construction of the structure of the
building including spread footing foundations, slab on grade, CMU wall framing, structural steel
framing and wood framing. In addition, we reviewed submittals for the concrete mix design,
reinforcing steel, masonry, structural steel, structural composite lumber, and pre-manufactured
wood roof trusses. A representative of KL&A also performed periodic site visits to observe the
project under construction for general compliance with the structural contract documents and
responded to construction questions from the field. These observations were not continuous or
exhaustive, therefore all conditions may not have been observed.
In addition to the structural observations we performed, Earth Engineering Consultant’s, EEC was
retained by the owner to perform special inspection as required by the contract documents and
the building code. It is our understanding that EEC provided structural special inspection for
subgrade preparation, structural concrete (reinforcing steel placement and concrete testing),
concrete masonry unit wall construction, cold formed steel wall framing, and structural steel. To
the best of our knowledge, KL&A was aware of discrepancies reported by the testing agency and
the reported discrepancies have been resolved.
Based on our observations and experience, to the best of our knowledge, the structure of Kappa
Kappa Gamma was constructed in general conformance with the structural contract documents
and is, in our opinion, substantially in conformance with the structural provisions of the 2012
International Building Code and local code amendments by the city of Fort Collins.
