Gentlemen:
A representative of Weeks & Associates reviewed the Multi-ply LVL beam framing in
the upper floor at the referenced project. We understand that the (3) 11 7/8” LVL beam
in the upper floor was installed such that (1) 11 7/8” TJI 210 I-joist was placed in
between the plies. The resulting beam is such that the stud post above falls over (2) 11
7/8” LVL plies adjacent to each other and the (1) 11 7/8” TJI 210 I-joist. The beam
should be fixed by adding an additional (1) 11 7/8” LVL next to the existing 2-ply side of
the beam. This new LVL ply is to be fastened to the existing beam with (18) 3 ½” SDS
screws within 12” of the stud point load above. Place in 3 rows, 3” min. spacing and 2”
min. edge distance, centered below the point load. Fasten the remaining length of the
LVL with (2) 10d common nails at 12” on center.
