Subject: Framing of rafter connections on addition at 180 Circle Drive, Ft. Collins, CO
To whom it may concern,
This letter is in response to a concern by a Ft. Collins building inspector regarding Rafter connections for
a sun room addition at 180 Circle Drive in Ft. Collins, Colorado.
One of the concerns was that the hardware used to connect the rafter to the ridge beam required a spacer
to be added to maintain the proper width of the hardware. Even though this was not an ideal installation,
the connection is more than adequate to provide the necessary support for the roof framing given that
16d nails were used to secure the hardware.
The other concern was the use of a'/i' shim used in the 2" wide saddle for the rafter hold down. Again,
not an ideal installation but this connection is also adequate to provide the necessary support for the
rafter hold down.
I approve the framing connections as structurally sound for the areas mentioned above.
