HomeMy WebLinkAbout317 S Sherwood St - Correspondence/Building Inspection - 07/07/1980MEMO TO: Chuck Mabry, Director Planning & Development FROM _Felix Lee, Deputy Chief Building Official DATE:` July 7, 1980 RE: Safe House, Occupancy Authorization The building referenced above located at 317 South Sherwood was previously used as a dwelling, i.e. "R-3 Occupancy" as defined in Section 1401 of the City Building Code. This classification also includes "lodging houses". Because the present use of the building as a temporary home for battered women, is essentially the same in character as a dwelling or lodging house, the occupancy classification would not change from an R-3. Subsequent issuance of a certificate of occupancy is not required by the code. An inspection by this office revealed that two discrepancies of note: did exist, however. Firstly, headroom is substantially impaired on the second story near the stairway and secondly, it was also noted that the gas -fired furnace was posted as unsafe by Public Service Company. These items were recommended to be corrected by the inspector prior to occupancy. FL/jm
