Collins, Colorado 80522 Ben;3c;6 Date Signed: July 1, 2 Attention: Dan Fry Re: Roof framing observation at the residence at 137 N. Roosevelt, Ft. Collins Dear Mr. Fry: I am a Professional Engineer licensed in multiple states and have been performing structural inspections for over 5000 buildings over the last 15 years. Prior to becoming an engineer, I experienced a full lifetime of construction, including hands on framing experience. I offer these credentials as a basis for my opinions herein. On June 11, 2015 I observed the roof framing regarding an addition being added. Structural design criteria includes: building code is 2012 International Residential Code (IRC) as amended by the local building jurisdiction; snow load of 30 psf; wind speed is 100 mph 3-sec. gust, exposure C; seismic zone B. I reviewed the plans prepared by Larsen Structural Design, their Project No. LSD 1940, dated 3-30-2015 for the overframing between the new addition and the existing west wing addition to the original home. The framing specified is excessive, would require removal of most of the existing west wing addition roof and some of it not constructible due to existing conditions. I recommend that the existing west wing roof framing supporting the overframing be installed per the attached Photo Sheet No. 1, with 2x4 struts under five (5) of the rafters and two (2) of the hips. I recommend that the new overframing have a ridge consisting of (2) 2x10, with 2x8 rafters over 9' and 2x6 rafters under 91, horizontal spans. Bear the ridge and rafters on a flat 2x8 nailer fastened to the existing roof at the valley. On June 12, 2015 I observed the installation of the framing as noted above and approve of the installation as built.
