Subject: Variance Request
Mike Gebo,
We are currently building a.covered walkway to connect two buildings on the Bethesda
Senior Living Campus, 5055 South Lemay Ave, permit #B1402708. After talking with Sam
Hancock he recommended we contact you and request a variance. This walkway is fully
sprinkled and has a wet FDC pipe above the ceiling. The forced air duct and supply grills are -
also in the ceiling. The plans call for R-38 insulation to be tented over the fire sprinkler line with
a dry upright sprig going up into the attic. The fire sprinkler company is concerned that these
dry sprigs may create a gap at some point in the batt insulation that will lead to a frozen
sprinkler line. We would like to put the insulation attached to the roof deck to trap the heat
from the walkway below and keep these pipes from freezing. We would also like to keep the
duct work uninsulated to help provide more warmth to this attic space. Can a variance be
granted for these two conditions?
Thank You
