Re: Open Excavation Observation

Dear Larry:

RMG Engineers Group (RMG) conducted a foundation excavation review for a single-family residence
under construction at the above -referenced site located in Fort Collins, Colorado on December 19, 2013.
The upper footings were excavated to the cobbley sandy clay and the lower footings were excavated to
the clayey silty sand, which is similar to those soils described in the Subsurface Soil Investigation, Rigden
Farm — Sixth Filing — Final Geotech, Fort Collins, Colorado, prepared by RMG Engineers Group, RMG
Job No. 139917 and dated October 2, 2013.
RMG did not encounter groundwater within three feet of the proposed footing elevation. The lower
footings will need to be over excavated a minimum two feet (2') in depth due to soft low bearing soils
encountered at the basement footing elevation. The soils supporting the footings will be a low expansive
material. Based on the soil conditions encountered within three feet of the footing level, a continuous
spread footing may be designed and constructed on a minimum two foot (2') of washed aggregate in the
basement level in accordance to the above mentioned Subsurface Soil Investigation.
