Dear Mr Luckeroth
It is the understanding of Total Engineering Service Inc that each end of the double
1 / x 11 7/8 LVL floor beam located on the north side of the above referenced single family
residence is bearing directly on the concrete in each beam pocket This is not acceptable as it
creates a potential for decay and rot of the bottom of the beam due to accumulation of
moisture As such Total Engineering Service Inc recommends that the bottom of the beam
at each end should be separated from the concrete with (1) layer of sill sealer foam matenal
and steel shims The bottom of the beam should be notched no more 1 to allow for
placement of the foam & shims
