Ref Special control gate latches.
Dear Cheryl,
I have reviewed your request to install Special Control Egress Devices on 2 gates located across
openings to the lobby at 6606 Avondale Road. It is my understanding that the gates and locking
controls are needed to assure that children can not leave the building unattended. The locking
hardware is approved to be installed with the following requirements;
i. Deactivation of the locking magnets shall occur upon activation of the fire alarm or
smoke detection system.
2. Deactivation of the locking magnets shall occur upon activation of the sprinkler system.
3. Deactivation of the locking magnets shall occur upon loss of electrical power.
4. Deactivation of the locking magnets shall occur upon a manual override switch. (The
plan shows a separate switch for each gate, the switch required shall be operated by
someone in attendance, usually located in the office and shall unlock both gates. This
required switch can be in addition to the two separate switches shown)
5. Gates shall swing in the direction of the egress doors as indicated.
6. System installer shall certify back to this office that the system complies with the above
requirements.
If the system is a low voltage electrical system, no building permit is required. You will need to
contact the Poudre Fire Authority for permits pertaining to alterations of the alarm system
