On July 14, 2005 1 visited the referenced site as requested. The purpose of this visit was to
determine the feasibility of cutting a new 4' by 4' window in the north basement wall near the
east end at the location of an existing window.
The house is a one-story wood framed structure with brick veneer and a full basement. The
north wall is parallel to the floor and roof.
Based on site observations it is my opinion it is feasible to cut the new window in the north
basement wall. The support header over the opening at the north wall should be a two 3 1/2" x
3 1/2" x 1/4" back to back steel angles. The vertical legs should be placed in the cavity between
the brick and framing and the horizontal leg under the brick and under the sill plate. The angles
should be supported by treated 2x8 trimmers each side of the window.
