Structural Engineers Y Per your request we have reviewed the trusses above bedroom 3 and bedroom 4 at the referenced project. It is our understanding the trusses span front to back and bear on the front exterior wall of bedroom 4 and a girder truss over the bay window in bedroom 3. It is our opinion the exterior truss bearing wall and the 4x6 posts supporting the girder truss should be supported by a W12x58 or W14x48 steel beam. The steel beam should then be supported by a 3" diameter steel column on the left and the W12x35 steel garage door header on the right. Additionally, we understand the floor joists on the main floor are 11-7/8" TJI/PRO 150's spaced at 16" on center instead of 9-1/2" TJI/PRO 150's as originally shown on our foundation plan dated August 14, 2003. Therefore the beams supporting the stairs on the main floor were changed from (2) 1-3/4"x 9-1/2" LVL to (1) 1-3/4"x 11-7/8" LVL. It is our opinion the (1) 1-3/4"x 11-7/8" LVL beams around the stairs are adequate to support the design load. If we can be of further assistance please contact us.
