Gentlemen:
On November 6, 2002, Weeks & Associates observed the foundation excavation at the
referenced site as requested. Observations indicate the soil at the upper foundation level is
sandy lean clay and the soils at the lower foundation level are sandy lean clay and highly
weathered claystone bedrock. The soils are similar to those described in the Geotechnical
report for the site by Northern Colorado Geotech dated October 5, 2002 (see Project No. 146-
02), which indicates the use of a spread footing foundation system.
A swell test was run on a sample of the highly weathered claystone by Northern Colorado
Geotech, resulting in less than 1 percent swell.
