Mr. Nelson,
It has come to my attention that the exterior steps to the above referenced address have
been rebuilt with poured concrete. An inspector from this office has inspected these steps
and finds that the steps have been installed in violation of the Uniform Building Code
Sections 1003.3.3; 1003.3.3.6 and 106.1. These sections deal with stair rise and run, slope
of landings, handrails at stairs and permits for work over 30" in height.
My inspector found that the landings, particularly the lower landing, have a slope that
exceeds '/4" per foot required by code. At this time I find that these steps are in violation
as stated above and now require that you obtain a building permit and correct these steps
by removing and re -pouring, using appropriate rise, run and slope. All landings 30"
above grade are required to have guard rails and all stairs with more than 3 risers are
required to be fitted with handrails.
You are hereby ordered to obtain the required permit and correct these stairs to comply
with code within 30 days of this date. Failure to comply with this lawful order may result
in an immediate summons to appear in municipal court where fines of up to $1,000.00/
day can be assessed.
