Tripoli, Development Coordinator City of Fort Collins, Community Development Department 300 LaPorte Avenue, P.O. Box 580 Fort Collins, Colorado 80522 RE: Sanitary Sewer Services, Riverside Shopping Center Dear Bonnie: The purpose of this letter is to verify that four inch (4") PVC sanitary sewer service lines, at a slope of one percent (I%), at the location shown on our construction plans will be adequate to achieve the self -scouring velocities typically required. Our calculations are as follows: V = 1.486 R2/3 S 1 /2 n (Manning's Formula, flowing full) where: V = velocity, in feet per second n = Manning's Roughness Coefficent = 0.010 (PVC)' R = D/4 = (4/ 12)/4 = 0.0833 S = slope, in feet per second = 1.0% V = 1- 6 (0.0833)2 /3 (0.01)112 0. V = 2.83 feet per second Riverside Shopping Center P.N. 113.20 Bonnie J. Tripoli Page 2 Since a velocity of 2.83 fps is greater than the 2.0 fps typically required as a minimum velocity to achieve a self -scouring condition, the 4" sanitary sewer service lines at 1.0% should function satisfactorily. If you have any questions regarding our calculations, please feel free to call me. Sincerely, A Ay,xe4 Michael D. Middleton, P.E. President MDM/nm cc: Martin D.
