Re: Basement egress window
Dear Ms. Danielson,
On 3/01/95, an inspector from the City Building Department
performed a final inspection for the "Sunroom" addition, permit no.
943444. At that time, it was noticed that the "Sunroom" addition
was built in front of the lower level bedroom egress window. This
does create a Code violation, since egress from all sleeping rooms
must open directly to the outside. As you and I have discussed, I
am willing to give final approval to the "Sunroom" with the
understanding that the lower bedroom in question is no longer
classified as a. bedroom, and is not to be used as a sleeping room,
from this time forward. You are allowed to use this room for any
function other then sleeping.
At some time in the future you may wish to install an approved
egress window and be able to use this as a bedroom. A permit and
final inspection on the new window will be required..
