The building design & fabrication was provided to Sinnett for completion on site. Initial visit revealed the majority of the structure erected. The structure is designed for bolt assembly, however, due to some fabrication errors, some welding has been authorized by the engineer. These locations are the south face where clips were required to be relocated. Also along the rafter at column line 5 where clips are to be field welded. Welding observed was marginal at the rafter on Column line 5. Reviewed the welds with Jeff who will instruct the welder to grind & repair the vertical portions of the fillets installed. Additionally a hole was blown in the web at this location, also identified for repair. Re: DRW. S-4352-01 Sht 1 where addition of anchor rod has been requested by engineering. Installed locations are A-2 & H-2 where 4 -1" anchors are to be added on each column base plate, A-3 & 4, H-3 & 4 where 2 -1.25" anchors have been added to each base plate. Columns C-1 & F-1 have been prepared for installation of 2 -1" anchors for each column base plate. Holes fabricated in the base plates for these additional anchors did not fully engage the foundation wall . The installer relocated the holes to fall 2" in from the foundation wall edge, this changed the hole layout pattern from 4" centerline to 2". Contractor will request engineering approval of this situation (see attached sketch pg 1). Note verified depth of embedment at 12" on open holes. Deficiencies Noted: 2/29/96 Re: DRW S-4325-01 sht 5 detail "End Wall Elevation (column line 5)". Specifically PM R-4 false rafter. The fabricated beam was reworked to match the rafter pitch as approved by the engineer however in installation revealed R-4 to be approximately 2" short. The erector installed the beam as follows. The column bolted connection was completed as designed. However at the rafter connection 4 -21-1 nuts were fillet welded over the end plate holes on the surface designed for contact with the rafter, next, 4 -A-325 bolts were placed engaging the welded nuts leaving the 2" mismatch, finally, the A-325 bolt heads were fillet welded to the rafter flange (5/8 of dia.), This situation will require engineering review.
