SUBJECT: Proposed change to plans
Dear Roy:
Ede are submitting for your consideration and approval a change in the construct-
ion details for the addition to the referenced project. The attached Dwg. A-16,
revised 1-9-85, shows our proposed details for an increase in the size of the
opening (glass enclosed) from Reception 114 to the existing exterior courtyard.
The original drawings show this opening to be 8' high x 18' wide. we propose
that this opening be changed to 14' high x 17' wide. In both cases this open-
inq is protected by a rolling metal fire door with drum hood recessed in ceiling.
Since the new addition to the existing facilities is to be fully fire sprinkled,
we request that the 12' x 12' limitation for 3-hr fire doors be waived. A sprink-
ler head (or 2) can be located to fully cover this door in the event of activat-
ion by fire.
In light of the added fire sprinkler protection to the new addition we request
your interpretation of the code on the affect of the sprinklers with regard to
the 4-hr area separation wall between the new and existing construction. would
therebe an allowable increase in building area that has been tabulated and shown
on Dwg. A-2 ? Are 3-hr labeled openings required in this wall now that the new
addition is fully sprinkled - in particular the 3' x 7' personnel passage doors ?
