Dear Jon:
JcGt ,ti71C oNC
I visited the above -referenced duplex units on May 5, 1998. The purpose of the visit was to observe the
gable end rake walls at Units 9, 11 and 12; and the end scissor trusses at the living/dining area of Unit 11.
The rake walls at units 9,11 and 12 are aproximately 40' m horizontal length and are framed with 2x4 Hem -
Fir Stud Grade studs at 16" o.c., with a braced end vertical height of approximately Wand a maximum braced
ridge vertical height of approximately 13'. The center portion of the rake wall has two studs braced by 2x6
ceiling framing at 8'-4" above the finished first floor elevation.
The tallest 2x4 studs in the rake walls are adequate for an imposed wind loading of 100 mph, Exposure B and
the small imposed roof loading. hi my opinion, the gable end rake walls at units 9,11 and 12 are adequate.
Trusses G08B and T08 at the east and west ends of the living/dining area at Unit 11 were switched during
truss installation. Truss T08 was intended for use at the exterior gable end rake wall and truss G08B was
intended for use at the interor gable end of the living/dining area. These trusses are essentially the same truss,
except truss G08B has non-structural vertical members beneath the scissor truss to accomodate interior
drywall sheathing. Due to the switch during truss installation, the non-structural vertical members from truss
G08B were wansfe6_ R to truss T08.-This is acceptable`— — —
