P. 0. Box 8475 Fort Collins, CO 80525 Dear Dick: The Landmark Preservation Commission reviewed the request for exterior work at 234-238 Linden at the May 21 special Commission meeting. The following items (and only these items) were given approval at this meeting: Exploratory work, including removing existing newer brick from kickplate areas (on west elevation, below storefront glass); stripping paint, from storefront details and from masonry on the south and east elevations, exploratory work at jambs of entry to the second floor; and demolition of the addition at the rear of the.building. only the above described work was approved by the Commission. Any other proposed exterior work must be submitted with additional detail (as discussed at the meeting on May 21) for Commission review. The Commission gave the following recommendations on several points proposed on the plans: -retain glass line of clerestory windows where it presently exists; -detail on proposed upper -story replacement windows needs to be provided. Commission is asking for windows that replicate existing window elements; -assuming there is no evidence of existance of "block details" on building, Comnisison is asking for deletion of these detail. Top cornice may be appropriate treatment to protect exposed brick at parapet; -the arch of the existing window (to be converted to door) on the west elevation should be retained above the door; -the two over two elements of windows on the east elevation should be retained; -Commission members recommend use of color, lights and east elevation stair as proposed with the application. The next Commission meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 4 at 5:30 P.M. The submittal deadline for this agenda will be noon on Wednesday, May 28. By this deadline, all proposed construction detail must be shown on the plan and/or specifications for proposed work. if you have any questions regarding this information, -please call me at 221-6756.
