Project No. 23-01-14-01 Dear Mr. Roth: As requested, we have reviewed the Pergola/Roof Cover framing of the rear patio at the above referenced residence. The framing consists of 16' long 2x10's spaced at 12" on center. The 2XI0'S support a roof for the first eight feet adjacent to the house, in other words, the first eight feet of the structure is a roof cover system and the second half of the structure is a pergola shade system. The upper roof system that covers the first eight feet of the structure consists of 2x6 rafters spaced at 24" on center. They are supported on the 2x10's below and hung to a 2x ledger attached to the studs on the side of the house. The 2x10's are supported on the outside by a 2- 2x10 beam set atop engineered 6x6 posts. The end of the 2x10's against the house is hung to a 2x10 ledger attached to the sheathing and rim board of the house with 3/8" diameter by 5" lag screws. It is our recommendation that at this location, the rim board be further attached to the house cantilevered joists with Simpson L70's or LS70 reinforcing angles. The 6x6 posts were set on top of the patio slab directly over existing concrete piers. The excavation revealed approximately 12"-14" diameter piers that extended to approximately frost depth, around 30" below finished grade. It is our opinion that the pergola/roof cover framing has been framed per generally acceptable construction practices and care.
