Colorado On December 5, 2012 1 visited the referenced site as. requested. The purpose of this visit was to determine the feasibility of cutting- an. egress window in the basement wall. The house is one-story wood framed with a full basement. The basement walls are 8" thick, concrete.. The window Isto be. placed near the north end of the east basement wall in the location of an, existing: 30" wide by .20" tall window. The new window will either be the same .width, but deeper to meet egress requirements or will be a 4' by.4' slider. The east wall supports floor and partial roof. Based on the proposed windows and existing,, construction it is my opinion it Is feasible to cut the window in the proposed location: If the window is the same width or narrower than the existing then: a supplernental header is not required provided the concrete over the window is not disturbed. If a 4' by 4' window is used then it is recom.mehded a (3)-1 3/4 1/4"x 7 '" LVL header be installed over the window opening in the east wall supported on treated.2x8 window bucks.
