Re: Pinetree Village Apartments
Stanley E. Brown, Architect
Dear Fir:
Please find enclosed two sets of calculations for wall framing
systems for the Pinetree Village Apartments. This material has
been consolidated from my original calculation and actually
rechecked against the 1970 WWPA Standard Grading Rules for
Western Lumber, which established lower working stresses than
permitted by UBC in some areas. In addition the original design
of this building was for a 20 lb. per square foot wind loading.
This has been rechecked for the 30# UBC Zone, i.e. 25 lbs. per
square foot. Stud spacings shown on the plans are equal or less
than spacings calculated.
SUMMARY
All first level studs to be spaced 8 inches on center in bearing
walls.
All second level studs to be spaced 14 inches on center in bear-
ing walls.

SUMMARY (Cont'd.
All third level studs to be spaced 12 inches on center in bear-
ing walls.
All non -bearing walls may have studs spaced at 16 inches on
center.
All studs, plates and sills for use in bearing walls in first
and second level to be Douglas Fir -Larch, standard or better,
MC15.
All other wall framing may be WesternWhite Woods, No. 2 or
construction grade, except interior non -bearing walls in all
areas may be Western White Woods, standard or better, MC15.
Enclosed also is design and fabrication sketch for end wall
truss'assembly.
This design is structurally safe with stresses within acceptable
limits for the loads specified in UBC, 1970 Edition. It makes
efficient use of readily available materials without utilizing
excessively select grades of lumber.
I am available to you for clarification of any of the structural
consideration involved in the Pinetree Apartment Buildings.
Very truly yours,
t, d K44al
