Earthwork At your request, we reviewed the earthwork materials placed and monitored during construction activities by Terracon on an `as requested" basis. Our services on the project building have included performing laboratory testing of the soils for suitability to the project specifications and the Geotechnical Engineering Report recommendations performed by Terracon (Project No. 20045169 dated June 21, 2005). Terracon also performed in -place field density testing during placement of the fill to check maximum density and moisture control. As recommended in the soils investigation, on -site or approved imported soils were suitable for placement during -construction. Lab oratory_ tests indicated, fill material tested by Temacon met the recommendations as outlined in the geotechnical report. The results of the field and laboratory testing were forwarded for review. In addition, the on -site superintendent and subcontractors were informed on a daily basis of the test results performed. Terracon performed 258 in -place moisture-density/compaction tests for the building, parking lot, curb and gutter, garage, cooling tower, sidewalk, retaining wail and road base subgrade placement and seweriinei waterline, plumbing, electrical, storm sewer and roof drain backfill. The tests at the locations indicated met or ultimately achieved (after retesting) compaction specification requirements. Observation of construction procedures and physical in -place testing of the stabilization process was provided by Terracon personnel on a part-time basis. Based upon the limited tests and observations performed, results indicate suitable materials and specified compaction at the locations tested. Our test results represent only the materials at the location and time of testing. Terracon did not direct nor control -the fill placement and compaction at the site and does not assume responsibility for the placement, compaction or control of the fill materials. Areas of fill which are not representative of our testing may exist, particularly in common fill areas such as slopes or landscaped outside of proposed construction. The foundation type and specific design for each structure will be recommended based on the particular characteristics of the soil type at foundation depth, and on the basis of further evaluations and observations prior to construction. C;1 o-f 4 Oakddge Senior Campus — UAL Compliance Summary Project No. 20061095 Page 2 Concrete /36-40 /-//9/ MffTM Z/7S_O Aleo'-wr-e 4 4X__ The Portland cement concrete placed and tested on -site consisted of 68 tests for physical property and compressive strength tests of floor, deck and balcony slabs, grade beams, garage footings and stem walls, sidewalks, curb and gutter, storm sewer, inlet box, balcony columns, patio footings and pool foundation wall. The reports indicate the specified minimum compressive strength requirements for the project have been achieved. It is recommended that the project structural engineer review the observation reports for acceptance as meeting the project criteria. � Reinforcing Steel and Post -Tension Terrac on provided reinforcing steel and post -tension tendon placement observation in structural concrete placements as requested. In addition, stress tensioning verification was provided with a copy of all reports submitted to the client, general contractor and structural engineer of record for the project The observations were performed per the provided plans and specifications for the project and have -been -formally reported to the client --and designated -parties.- It is - recommended that the project structural engineer review the test reports for acceptance as meeting the project design criteria. Hot Mix AsghaR (HMA) Paving Two (2) samples of HMA were obtained for bitumen content and gradation to check conformance to the submitted mix design formula during paving operations with test results within the mix design formula tolerances provided to Terracon as reference for asphalt content. The two samples were outside of the job mix tolerances for gradation (Report Nos. 20061095.0137 and 20061095.0143) and are attached for reference. In addition, 12 in -place density tests were performed to determine relative compaction by the nuclear method, and all were within the 92 - 96% requirement. A core versus nuclear correlation test was not performed and typically the core test results will result in a higher test value. Masonry Testing and Observations Five sets of grout samples, five sets of mortar samples, and five sets of masonry assemblages were obtained for compressive strength testing. Test results have met or exceeded the required the reported minimum strength specified for the project. In addition observations of construction procedures and reinforcing steels were performed on an as -requested basis. It is recommended that the project structural engineer of record review the test reports for acceptance as meeting the project criteria. The observations were performed per the provided plans and specifications for the project and have been formally reported to the client and designated parties. It is recommended that the project structural engineer of record review the test reports for acceptance as meeting the project criteria. Structural Steel and Fire Proofing Observation Inspex ndt. provided structural steel/weld site construction and fire proofing observations (services through 7/12107). Observation results were provided to on -site personnel at the time of the visit with a written report as documentation. The observation reports have noted observations as being acceptable per the provided plans with the exception of the attached reports dated 12115106, 1/9107, 2/23/07, 3/6/07, 3/8/07, 3114/07, 3121/07. 3122/07, 3126107, 4123/07, 5/15/07, 5123/07, 617/07, 6/29/07 and 7/12/07. It is recommended that the project structural engineer review the observation reports for acceptance as meeting the project criteria. Miscellaneous Observations Vapor emission testing was performed at frequencies selected by our client and were evaluated by the contractor per the provided construction requirements. Additionally, sound -proof insulation, fire caulking and sc rewfiastener patterns of the interior and exterior gypsum board were observed at frequencies selected by our client. All observations and/or recommendations were provided in a written report. It is recommended that the project structural engineer and/or architect review the observation reports for acceptance as meeting the project criteria. This report has been prepared for the exclusive use of providing test data and observations to document the earthwork, post -tensioned slabs, reinforcing steel, HMA paving, concrete, masonry, structural steel, and fire proofing operations conducted for the proposed project. The opinions and conclusions presented have been derived in accordance with generally accepted geotechnical and material engineering practice. No other warranty expressed or implied is made. In the event that there are any changes in the nature or design of the project, the conclusions contained in this report shall not be considered valid unless this firm reviews such changes, and the conclusions of this report are modified or verified in writing. This letter is prepared for the exclusive use and reliance of our client. Use or reliance by any other party is prohibited without the written authorization of our client and Terracon.
