As requested I have reviewed the existing roof structure to determine the feasibility of placing
three new roof top units (RTU's) on the roof.
The units are 1600#'s each and are approximately 5' wide by 8' long. The units will sit on curbs
on the roof.
The existing roof structure is steel bar joists supported on exterior CMU walls and interior joist
girders. Two units are planned to be centered over the center joist girder at different bays. The
third unit is to centered over the east joist girder.
Based on the weight of the units and the existing structure it is my opinion it is feasible to place
the three units on the roof structure. The units should be centered on the existing joist girders.
The unit at the east girder should be placed approximately 10 feet from the south wall to the
south edge of the unit or the south edge of the unit should be placed over the second bar joist
from the south.
Support frames under the RTU curbs should be installed as detailed on the attached sketch.
Additionally web reinforcement angles should be provided for the bar joists as noted on the
attached sketch.
