HomeMy WebLinkAbout812 Sitka St - Special Inspections/Engineering - 01/29/2007DATE: January 29, 2007 ADDRESS: Mr. Joe Jackson 24050 E. 155" Way Brighton, CO 80603 PROJECT NUMBER: 07-4320 SUBJECT: Excavation Inspection of 812 Sitka Street, City of Fort Collins, Larimer County, Colorado REFERENCED SOIL REPORT: Kiva Engineering #5936-01-01-01 SOILS EXPOSED IN EXCAVATION: Clayey, slightly gravelly sands On January 29, 2007, we visually observed the excavation for the proposed residence at the above referenced site. At the time of our observation the excavation was complete. The excavation ranged in depth from two (2) to three (3) feet below original grade. Based on our observation the soils appear consistent with the above referenced soils report which recommends that the structure be supported by a continuous spread footing foundation bearing on native, undisturbed soils. It is further advised that backfill around the foundation should be compacted to reduce settlement and slope at a 10% grade away from the foundation walls. Downspouts and sill cocks should. discharge into splash blocks or long downspout extensions that extend beyond backfill limits. The footing sizes appear to be in general conformance with the foundation plan by Kiva Engineering, Project No. 5936-01-01-02, dated December 12, 2006. The reinforcement appears to be in general conformance with the foundation plan by Kiva Engineering, Proj ect No. 5936-01-01-02, dated December 12, 2006. KFB/bjd 383837 165 2nd Street S.W. • Loveland, CO 80537 • (970) 667-8010 • Fax: (970) 667-8024 February 12, 2007 Mr. Joe Jackson 24050 E. 155"' Way Brighton, CO 80603 RE: Sill Plate and crawl space bearing wall observation for the residence under construction at 812 Sitka Street, City of Fort Collins, Larimer County, Colorado CDS Project No. 07-4320 Dear Joe: On February 8, 2007, we visually observed the sill plate and the crawl space bearing wall at the above referenced site. At the time of our observation, these items appeared to be in general conformance with the foundation plan by Kiva Engineering (Project No. 5936-01-01-02, dated December 12, 2006). The. LSTA straps were not installed at the crawl space bearing wall at the time of this inspection; however, we were informed they would be installed after the house is in place. Furthermore, we observed that the STHD10 holdowns had not been installed at the required locations around the garage door opening. It is our opinion that Simpson HTT22's, or equal, could be used in lieu of the Simpson STHD10's. This tie shall be installed per manufacturer's specifications.
