We did not observe the foundation wall reinforcement prior to concrete placement for the four -bay garage located at 2246 Trestle Road. We were requested to visit the site on November 20, 2006 to attempt to detect steel embeds in the foundation walls for the referenced garage structure. At the time of our observations, the foundation walls had already been constructed. We requested that the contractor excavate foundation wall backfill along three sides of the foundation to allow access to the foundation walls. We used a pachometer device (metal detector) to detect the approximate locations of steel reinforcement in the foundation walls. Pachometer testing indicated that steel embeds were present in the top and bottom of all three sides of the garage at the locations exposed as specified on the structural drawings.
