Pennel/JFP Remodeling 10104 Poudre Canyon Bcllvue, CO 80512 June 1, 1998 Re: Inspection of Residential Structure at 618 E Myrtle, Fort Collins, CO Dear John; At your request, I visited the residence at 618 E Myrtle on June 1, 1998, to determine the structural requirements to allow removal and replacement of a bearing wall with a header and enlargement of two basement window openings in the existing concrete foundation wall. The existing basement bearing will is 8" CMU (block). The wall supports floor framing, basement ceiling, and miscellaneous mechanical loads. The indicated desired opening size is 11 feet clear, A gang L,VL (ex. Micro =Lam®) beam made up of four (4) 1-3/4" x 9- 1/4" members will support the required loads up to a clear span of 1V-6". The LVL members should be nailed together with two rows of 16d nails at 12" o.c, into each side. The ends of the beam should bear a minimum of 4" on a pocket cut into the adjoining CMU. The cores in the CMU below the new beam bearing should be filled with cement grout. The windows indicated to be enlarged are in a non -bearing, gable end of an 8" CIp concrete wall. The width of the opening will not be changed from 32.5", The height of the opening will change from 24.5" to 50". You have indicated that the soil outside of each window will be cut back to allow an area well with steps providing an egress pathway. For this condition, no modification_ or reinforcement of theexisting concrete foundation wall will be required. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call.
