Bonnema, Shear Engineering Corporation was present during caisson drilling and concrete placement for the above referenced site on Friday, January 30, 1998. The soils within the excavation were noted at this time. The soils noted at the bottom of the basement excavation, and throughout the excavation, consisted primarily of claystones and weathered claystones. The soils noted are generally consistent with those noted by Earth Engineering Consultants in their geotechnical investigation report for the Huntington Hills Filing No. 5 area titled Subsurface Exploration Report for Huntingt6n Hills P.U.D. 5th filing. A caisson type foundation was recommended for this area. Groundwater was not evident in the excavation. Waterproofing is not required. At a minimum, all foundation walls shall be dampproofed to within 12" of the proposed finished grade according to the requirements of "91 UBC, Appendix Chapter 29, Waterproofing and dampproofing foundations. A foundation drain system will be required. A sump pit to be located in the basement is recommended as a secondary drain outfall. Caisson construction was performed in substantial conformance with the foundation plan for this residence which was prepared by Shear Engineering Corporation.
