The purpose of these observations was to assure that the piers were drilled correctly for the subsurface conditions encountered and to assure that the piers were constructed according to the specifications on the foundation plan by Foundation & Soils Engineering Inc., Project No. 1036-07-12-01. The pier drilling operations encountered silty claystone bedrock at depths of zero (0) feet to two (2) feet below the base of various excavation levels. The piers were drilled a total minimum length of twenty two (22) feet with a minimum bedrock embedment of eight (8) feet, whichever was greater. Groundwater levels were encountered in the borings at depths of twenty one (21) feet below the excavation. Casing of the borings was not required. As a result of our observations, it is our opinion that the construction of those piers observed were in general conformance with the plans and specifications. If you have any questions about our observations or this report, feel free to contact our office. Sincerely, SCOTT, CO ASSOCIATES, INC. se Eriz gineering Technician Reviewed by: M. The purpose of this observation was to vJ fy that the suh"drface conditions ericountered`ifi the ezeavatioii are gerierally`corfsistent with` those outlined in the soils reports performed by Earth Engineering Consultants, Job No 1962002, dated July 31, 1996 and CTL Thompson Inc., Job No. FC1011, dated May 13, 1998.. This letter is not intended to be a summary of the soils report and does not meet the disclosure requirements of Colorado Senate Bill 13, 6-6.5-101. At the time of our inspection, the excavation had been completed. The garage level excavation revealed slightly moist silty clay. The basement level excavation revealed weathered silty claystone bedrock. Groundwater was not observed within the excavation. These subsurface conditions exposed appeared to be consistent with the above referenced soils report. However, based on our experience with similar conditions in the general area, we recommend a drilled pier type foundation system in lieu of footings. The piers should be designed for a maximum end bearing pressure of 24 KSF, and a skin friction value of 2.5 KSF and a dead load pressure of 7 KSF. Piers should be designed and constructed in accordance with our foundation plan for this Lot Plan No. 1036-07-12-01. We recommend that damp -proofing be installed at the foundation walls for all below grade, habitable living areas per 1991 UBC Section 2915. Due to the measured depth of bedrock below footing elevation, it is our opinion that an exterior perimeter drain is required for this structure. All other recommendations provided in the original report, which are applicable, should be adhered to. Thank you for consulting with us on this phase of the project.
