CORRECTION NOTICE
City of Fort Collins May 24, 1991
Myron Lloyd
2201 Loyola Avenue
Fort Collins, CO 80525
RE: Potential Hazardous Furnace, 531 E. Prospect Avenue
Dear Myron Lloyd:
I inspectedthefloor furnaces i-n the above residence today as a
result of a reported burn injury inflicted on a small child living
there after he apparently fell on the hot furnace grate. I noted
the following conditions:
1. Some of the carpet around the floor opening adjacent to the
steel grate appeared to be slightly scorched.
2. Some accumulated debris and dust inside the furnace
chamber.
3. A functional safety pilot.
The tenant, Anita Gonzales, stated the furnace heat exchanger gets
extremely hot, to the point of emitting a reddish glow, indicating
a possible malfunctioning heat limit control. The proximity of the
heat exchanger to the floor grate above (approximately 3 or 4
inches) would result in substantial heat transfer through the
grate.
The Fort Collins "Non -owner Occupied Housing Standards" mandate
"all mechanical equipment within any dwelling . . . shall be
maintained in a working, safe condition. . .." (Section 5-279 of
the City Code). Therefore, in order to assure the safety of the
occupants, you are hereby notified that the above furnace must be
inspected, cleaned, serviced, and repaired or replaced if necessary
by a qualified heating contractor, licensed in the City of Fort
Collins, no later than June 24, 1991.
Please be advised that failure to comply with this order can result
in a court summons and subsequent fines.
Sincerely,
Felix Lee
Division Director
