BOX 251 FORT COLLINS, CO 80521 September 4, 1973 Gordon Clyde Chief Building Inspector City of Fort Collins Fort Collins, CO 80521 Re: New Main Fire Station Project No. 71-19 Fort Collins, Colorado Dear Gordon: We would like you to review two of the items your inspectors have found as not being in conformance with code provisions. They are as follows: 1. Section 1714, 1970 Edition, can be interpreted as requiring a 42" guardrail on the open sides of stair runs. We do not believe this was the intent of the code. Evidence for our view may be found by comparison with Section 1716 of the 1973 Edition where the word "stairs" has been deleted. 2. Your inspector quoted the mechanical code (correctly, we assume) as not allowing a hose spray on sinks in a commercial building. The spray in question is located on the kitchen sink in the firemen's- livingc}LLa.rte_rs-.- The s-i-nk-I-s-used - in a completely residential fashion and the Fire Chief indicates that the men need and use the sp ay hose. Sinks in Fire Stations #2 and #3 and the existing Main Fire Station are so equipped. We request approval of the above items as installed. Sincerely, WiTI lam 0. Brenner, Jr., Vice Pres.
