Collins, Colorado 80525 Re: 408 Cornell; Ft. Collins, Colorado Dear Mr. Bonertz, 9oa 1;,-2 311f At your request and representing Shear Engineering Corporation, I conducted several observations at the above referenced address on Tuesday, August 18, 1998. These observations were in association with your plan for cutting two (2) larger windows in the southernmost existing basement concrete foundation wall. The existing foundation wall is an eight foot (8') high, 10" thick concrete wall. There are existing smaller basement windows where the proposed larger windows will be located. The exterior wall of the residence has a full height brick veneer and also supports frame wall, floor, live, roof and snow loads. Based on my observations and the anticipated loading conditions from above at the window locations, the installation of larger basement windows will not affect the overall structural integrity of the foundation wall or the main structure above. However, window headers must be placed to support the upper loads, since concrete structure which would remain for the new window location, would be inadequate for support of the upper loads. Based on the anticipated loading conditions, the thickness of the existing foundation wall (10") and the proposed window opening size (54" wide by 49" high rough opening), the proposed header will consist of five (5) 1 3/4" x 7'/2" microllams (8.75"). Consideration should be made for current uniform building code egress requirements. These include sill height requirements, requirementsetc. egress square footage requirements, window well egress , If you have any questions, please call at (970) 226-5334. Sincerely Brian W.
