A design of the footings has been made in accordance with criteria and recommenda- tions as set forth in a soils report made of the area by this firm. we recommend that the two-story and the one-story portions of °the structure be supported by 8" x 12" continuous type footings. Interior pads supporting the floor girder in the single -story portion should be 1'-6" x P -6" x 10". It is further recommended that the garage be supported by an 8-inch grade beam carried to at least 30 inches below finished grade. we`recommend that all foundation walls and grade beams he rein- forced with two M5 bars both top and bottom. Pads supporting the floor girder should have a4 bars at 12 inches on center both ways. It is further recommended that slabs -on -grade be placed directly on the undisturbed soil or compacted fill which has been slightly wetted down prior to placing the concrete. All slabs should be reinfor:ed with 6x6-10/10 mesh and should be structurally independent of all bearing members. It is important that all footings and grade beams be carried t,. orikinal undisturbed soil. In no case should footings or grade beclms be founded on fill material or loose soil. To verify this, we recom- mend that a soils engineer inspect all excavations prior to placing concrete. As per soils report, all backfill adjacent to foundation should be mechanically tamped to 90% of standard proctor and no puddling should be permitted. Additional precautions should be taken to prevent wetting of foundation soils as discussed in the soils report. In our opinion, full consideration has been given to the recommendations as' `set forth in the soils and foundation investigation report. Very truly yours, EMPIRE ABQRATORIES INC. 111 Chester C.
