HomeMy WebLinkAbout1422 N College Ave - Correspondence/Building Inspection - 02/24/1997Community Planning and Environmental Services Building Permits and Inspection Division February 24, 1997 Everopen Cafe Attention: Kelly 1422 North College Avenue Fort Collins, Colorado 80524 Dear Kelly Recently you telephoned me concerning an issue raised by the Poudre Fire Authority during a fire inspection of your restaurant. The inspectors wrote that a second exit is required from the restaurant dining area which seats 100. My research of the building permit records shows that the restaurant has existed, essentially unchanged, since the early 1970's and that a second exit exists but passes through the kitchen. You have stated that the path to the back door does not pass through the cooking area but between the cooking and dishwashing areas. I have discussed the existing condition with Mike Gebo, the Codes and Inspections Administrator for the city building inspection office and the Fire Inspection Coordinator for the Poudre Fire Authority, Martin Marrujo. Both agree that it would be acceptable to leave the second exit in its present configuration if the following additional conditions are met: All doors in the exit path swing in the direction of egress and the door hardware allows opening with one motion. Emergency lighting is provided in the kitchen as well as in the dining room. An exit sign is provided in the dining room above the exit in question. The fire department agrees that you may need additional time if any corrections are required to meet these conditions. If alterations to the electrical system such as new fixtures or wiring are needed, a building permit and inspections should be obtained by a licensed electrician registered in the City of Fort Collins.
