As requested, an engineer from Empire Laboratories, Inc. has
reviewed the feasibility of cutting some windows in the basement
walls at the above -referenced location. It is our understanding
that four 41x41 windows are to be cut in the wall. Two windows
will be cut in the rear of the basement and one on each end wall of
the basement. It is our understanding the existing foundation is
a cast -in -placed reinforced concrete wall. It is recommended the
windows be cut a minimum of 12t1 below the top of the wall so that
the top row of reinforcing bars is not cut and that the bottom of
window remain a minimum of 2411 above the bottom of the wall to
protect the bottom row of reinforcing steel. The 1211 of concrete
above the top of the window is adequate to support the first floor
and roof load at the rear basement wall.
If you have any questions, please contact us.
Very truly yours,
