March 4, 1994 Mr. Steve Carlyle 2155 West Orchard Place Fort Collins, Colorado 80521 Re: Tall - 1220 West Elizabeth Fort. Collins. Colorado Project No. 20946040 Dear Mr. Carlyle: P.O. Box 503 • 301 No. Howes Fort Collins, Colorado 80522 (303) 484-0359 FAX No. (303) 484-0454 Chester C. Smith, P.E. Neil R. Sherrod, C.PG. As requested, an engineer from Empire Laboratories, Inc. has reviewed the proposed fence construction at the above -referenced location in order to determine the capability of the fence to resist 100 mile per hour winds. It is our understanding that a 10-foot high wood fence is to be placed around a proposed volley ball area at the exterior of the existing building. Based upon the 100 mile per hour winds, it is recommended that 6"x6" treated lodge pole posts be placed at 6' o.c. embedded in a minimum 10" 0 concrete pier with a minimum 4-foot length. Four 2"x4" horizontal rails per section should be provided and should be nailed to the 6"x6"s with four.20d ring shank nails each end. The pickets should be nailed to the rails with a minimum of two 8d galvanized nails at each rail. If you have any questions, please contact us.
