We have calculated the heating U-factors, wall and roof areas etc. for the
3150 square foot addition at JAX Surplus and have found that the addition
does meet the Model Energy Code heating criteria. The addition is not
mechanically cooled, but will benefit from the evaporative coolers serving
the rest of the building.
As for the outside air requirements for the occupants, at 15 CFM per person
and 1 person per 30 square feet, the addition needs 1575 CFM. Since the
addition is open to the rest of the building through the two fire doors,
each 115 square feet, and the outside doors are to be left open, the evapo-
rative coolers bringing in approximately 35,000 CFM outside air will re-
lieve partially through the addition, supplying plenty of outside air. If
necessary the skylight relief vents in the rest of the building can be
partially closed to force air out through the new addition.
