Dear Mr. Emery
On August 27, 1997 a representative of Terracon Consultants Western, Inc. visited the
referenced site as requested. The purpose of this visit was to render an opinion based
on visual observations and site measurements regarding the feasibility of cutting a
basement window into the south basement wall near the south east corner.
The existing basement is a cast in place concrete foundation. It is our understanding the
window is to be a 48" x 48" window centered on an existing window. The window is to
extend to the top of the foundation wall.
Based on the proposed construction it is our opinion it is feasible to cut the window in
the south basement wall. A 3-2x8 flush header should be provided at the top of the
window. The floor joists should hang from the header. The header should bear on a
2x6 redwood trimmer each side of the window.
