Hello Tyler,
Here are a few comments from John and me from the plans you provided, not much overall.
% n page Gi.o it states under "Grading" it says turfgrass slope should not exceed 25%.1 didn't
know if that was standard or not, but that sounds pretty steep for mowing and irrigating.
. On page D1.o under the "Site Demolition Notes", number 26 just says "Trash Receptacle" with
no notes corresponding. The trash receptacles belong to the Library District, so I think that it
should be noted that they should be returned to the Library District.
3. I don't know what the status is for annual flower planting in the landscape pots - we have chosen
not to plant annual landscape pots at other locations this year due to the drought implications. I
wasn't sure if we wanted to suggest that protocol in this location or not. Also, I didn't see a spec for
the fill material for the landscape pots. S 7
4. I am not sure if there is enough space for the rlocated perennial plants from the front flagpole
bed to be transplanted to the Butterfly Garden. If not, we may have to look at alternate locations
such as the Museum Courtyard?
5. I would like to see a trash receptacle with a ^ i urn on the top. The one that is spec'd
doesn't have one, and the amount of cigarette butts at this location is high. If there isn't a way to
incorporate a cig urn into the trash can, an attempt should be made to install freestanding,
permanently affixed cig urns in the vicinity of the trash receptacles.
6. S3.0 says cut and cap all irrigation that is damaged. Can the contractor please coordinate with
Parks staff immediately if such events occur to reduce irrigation down time and
miscommunications. It will be vital that repairs be completed as soon as possible.
Please let me know if you have questions.
Thank vrni

Hi Tyler, ctr
r
I just checked the plans that you sent this morning. There are some line over text issues again on sheets S1.0, S2.0,
S3.0 & S4.0.
There were no Landscape Plans in the set emqi1jad this morning. Assuming that they match the sheets in the set you
emailed me on 2/14/13, these are still good. Ui
The legal descriptions that you sent me last Wednesday look goo .

RE: Old Town Library Plaza Streetscape Improvements
Hi Tyler,
Forestry has reviewed the plans. We did identify a few small adjustments to help protect existing from excavation to
install plants under the canopy. Also there are a couple of other detail items.
1. In the landscape areas along Peterson, except in the south most areas where existing trees are small, position 1
gallon plants 8 feet from trees and the 2.25 inch ground cover 4 feet from existing trees.
2. In the landscape area around the 2 existing spruce please use only 1 gallon material.
3. Under the Tree of Heaven on the north side of the entrance change shrubs under the canopy of this tree to 1
gallon.
4. At the SE corner of the building please keep relocated plants 7 feet away from the existing Maple.
5. We would like to verify that irrigation in the new planting beds is all drip irrigation?
6. A plant used in the north most landscape area along Peterson is labeled MAR but does not appear to be
identified in the Plant list.
7. The foot note under the plant list talks about the City Forestry Division providing the two Skyline honeylocust but
the correlating foot note in the plant list is by potentilla and not honeylocust.
Thanks

All,
Attached is the most current plan set for the Old Town Library Streetscape Improvements Project located at 201
Peterson St. Also attached is a copy of the most recent comments related to the project from 9/18/2012. Please
review the plan set and let me know if there are any additional changes, modifications or comments that need to be
added to the plan set prior to final signature and recordation. This is the Final Review of the project and the last
chance for modifications before the project is released for construction. Please review and let me know if there are
any issues no later than February 21, 2013. If I do not hear anything back by this date I will assume that you do not
have any objections to the project.
Please note that sheets G1(General Notes), D1(Demo Sheet), S2 (Site Plan North), L2 (Landscape Plan North), and
SD2 (Site Details) have already been approved and signed on 11/20/2012. We can add to or modify these already
approved plans if absolutely necessary but I assume they are ok as they have been signed and released for minor
construction of the chess board installation. Also, there is a recent minor revision to sheets S3 and S4 (see cloud on
sheets) in the plaza area where the approach had previously exceeded 5% grade.

Subject: Library Construction notes
Hi Tyler,
Steve Lukowski and I met with Damon Holland, Ripley Design, and discussed some of the landscape plans from a
maintenance standpoint a few weeks ago. A few notes that I would make additionally:
1 We haven't seen any irrigation design or irrigation notes. The new landscape design will demand significant
re -design of the existing turf irrigation zone along Peterson St., a new valve for the shrub beds and a new
valve installed for the annual pots.
2. The benches to be moved from existing locations in the park to the new chessboard are memorial benches. I
am not sure about the sensitivity of the families to movement. It may be worth checking into if that hasn't
happened already.
Irrigation sleeves will have to be installed under the new concrete. Locations will depend on design of the
irrigation system, but will have to be determined before concrete is poured.
4.— Plant label PAN on page 1.1.0 (southern most shrub bed) doesn't correspond to anything on the plant list.
5. We would like to see the landscape boulder (#2) moved towards the full circle shrub bed in the front
entrance space. it currently is positioned out into the concrete and will cause maintenance concerns for
snow removal and traffic patterns.
6. If there are additional plans for an amphitheater towards the rear of the building on the North side by the
drive, they should also include significant irrigation re -design. At that point, it may be advisable to re -visit
the idea of an irrigation retro-fit to update the aging underground infrastructure surrounding the Library.
Thanks Tyler,

Randy, there are currently (3) handicap spaces existing. They are proposing (3) to remain but I can
have them add a fourth just north of the smaller ramp if that is what you would like to see (that spot
is currently proposed for the book drop off space). Also, if you look closely they do identify sign
placement on the site plan, labeled HS (handicap sign), PS (parking sign) and BDS (book drop sign). I
know it is confusing, it took me a while to realize what there were calling out. Anyways, it seems
that the sign placement is to remain as is except for at the new handicap ramp designs. They have
them dimensioned 7ft back from flow line but I believe we have been placing them 4ft back of flow
line (or to align with existing street trees) in the downtown area? And they are not centered on the
centerline diagonal, thank you I will have them revise this.
Ward, I will have them make the change to "Local Entity Traffic Engineer". Good question about the
proposed plantings, what I understand from sheet S1 is that directly south of the handicap ramps
and at the corner ramps washed river rock cobble mix placed flush with the ground and 2-2.5ft tall
granite river boulders are to be placed on top of the river rock. I will definitely bring up the question
to confirm that there is nothing planted here that will block the sight distance. Do you think that 2-
2.5ft tall granite boulders would cause a sight distance problem?
Thank you again for both of your input. If you think of anything else please contact me.

1. It appears there may be four handicap spaces, but only three of the spaces have the
handicap symbol. Could you confirm that the fourth space just to the north of the smaller
ramp is also a handicap space, and if so, it should have a pavement marking.
2. 1 don't see a sign plan, so not sure what the sign placement will be, so here's a few things to
keep in mind. Currently, there is a five-minute book drop-off space. 1 assume the Library
wants to retain that space. Need to make sure that sign is properly placed, preferably on the
centerline diagonal of that space. Each Handicap space should have a sign located on the
centerline diagonal of each space, and include the standard handicap sign plus fine
amount. Finally, assuming the remainder of the block will remain as time -limited spaces, we
will need the time -limit signs reinstalled to properly bracket each end of the time -limit areas,
with an appropriate number of intervening time -limit signs spaced no more that 4-5 spaces
apart.
That's it for me. Thanks for the chance to review.

2. Are the plantings immediately south of the front Handicapped ramps low enough to not create
a visibility issue between cyclists/runners on the sidewalk and a person coming up the ramp
in a wheel chair? Same at the curb ramps on Peterson at each corner of the property. I know
it's not the typical sight distance but with more close proximity intensive landscaping it might
be something to consider.
