Colorado 80525 Phone: (970) 226-6819 Fax: (970) 207-9256 Email: lesterkapland;8m st:rret` May 25, 2004 Ted Shepard Planning Department 281 North College Avenue Fort Collins, CO 80524 Re: Renaming "Cambridge Avenue" Ted: As we have discussed by phone, several of the major property owners and developers south of the Harmony Road/ Cambridge Avenue intersection wish to initiate the improvement of Cambridge Avenue between Harmony Road and Rock Creek Drive. These include Chateau Development (developer of Morningside Village), Village Homes (developer of Observatory Village), and Imago Enterprises, Inc. that owns 70 acres on the east side of this portion of Cambridge Avenue, which property is part of the Harmony Technology Park Overall Development Plan. This one-half mile stretch of Cambridge Avenue has approved final engineering as part of the Hewlett-Packard's Harmony Technology Park O.D.P. Second Filing. Mike Brake with JR Engineering and I have met recently with City staff, including Cam McNair, Basil Hampton, Dave Stringer and Mark Verata to discuss reformatting the engineering for Cambridge Avenue into a stand alone improvement and completing the A -line and permitting process with CDOT. We have received comments that the City intends to rename Cambridge Avenue and that You are responsible for coordinating the renaming process. Having an agreed upon name for this important roadway is important for the engineering revision and CDOT application processes. This letter serves as a formal request that you begin the process for determining a permanent, new name for Cambridge Avenue. I understand that this process will involve meetings with the neighboring property owners and final approval from City Council. Therefore, we request that you begin as soon as possible. Sheri was explaining at last week's DCP for Cambridge Avenue that Les was inquiring about the street name. To the extent that they will likely begin construction on the road next week which will result in the signalization of the intersection with Harmony, the status on the name change is being raised to ensure that the permanent name (if it is to be renamed) is installed with the construction.
