We appreciate you sharing your concerns for the safety of motorists at certain times of lengthy backups and note that the Board voted to urge timely action by City Council and staff. It is our understanding that City Staff in the Traffic Operations Department have worked with Starbucks to make some site improvements to allow for additional on-site stacking at that area. Raising Cane’s also submitted plans to add an additional stacking lane to the drive-through, and staff remains hopeful these changes will eliminate the safety issues. Thank you for bringing these issues forward and we appreciate your service on the Transportation Board. We know that it takes everyone being a co-creator in Fort Collins to continue to make it the great place we call home. Sincerely, Wade Troxell Mayor /sek Cc: City Councilmembers Darin Atteberry, City Manager Nicole Hahn, Interim Traffic Engineer Indy Hart, Chair Nathalie Rachline, Vice Chair DATE: TO: FROM: CC: RE: 16 December 2020  Mayor Troxell and City Councilmembers  Indy Hart, Transportation Board Chair, on behalf of the Transportation Board  Darin Atteberry, City Manager and Nicole Hahn, Interim City Traffic Engineer  Concern about business traffic along College Ave.  The Transportation Board has expressed significant concern about the traffic congestion and accidents which  have occurred and continue to occur on College Ave. due to vehicles stopping in thru-lanes in order to access  businesses. We specifically want to express concern about the current traffic issues related to Raising Cane’s.  Additionally, we wish to note that other nearby businesses induce similar issues.  At tonight’s meeting, several board members voiced serious concerns about the situation-specific issues which  were reported by city staff as well as those observed by board members. It was noted that no injuries have  occured but that driving behaviors related to the traffic congestion has resulted in fast-moving maneuvers which  could lead to loss of vehicle control, injuries, and potential pedestrian deaths.  This letter is the result of a motion which passed (8-0) to have the Chair relay that the Transportation  Board urges a timely response and/or action to the above concerns by City Council and city staff. We  understand that the issue is known to Council and city staff. We support the continued attention and intention  that City Council and city staff have in addressing this situation. Our hope in sending this letter is to bring  additional notice to this issue and to add our voice in support of efforts to resolve those existing concerns.  Thank you for receiving and considering whatever timely action is possible. Respectfully submitted, Thomas (Indy) Hart, Transportation Board Chair
